INTRODUCTION

Koki Mitani, one of Japan's leading screenwriters and film directors, has continued to entertain and move us with his works. “All About Suomi”, his long-awaited new creation which he has both written and directed, comes five years after his last film, “Hit Me Anyone, One More Time!” in which Kiichi Nakai played a prime minister with amnesia.
“All About Suomi” is an original work and the ninth film directed by Mitani.
Masami Nagasawa, a popular and talented actress who has won numerous awards for her work in film, drama and theater, plays the lead role of Suomi. She was also featured in a stage production written and directed by Koki Mitani called “Murasaki Shikibu Diary – The Authoresses.” Mitani, who trusts her fully and has always wanted to make a film with Ms. Nagasawa has cast her in the title role. This is Nagasawa’s first appearance in a Mitani film. This is also the first time a woman has played the lead in a Mitani film since the 2011 hit “A Ghost of a Chance” starring Eri Fukatsu.
One of the five men who fall in love with Suomi is played by Hidetoshi Nishijima, who starred in the critically acclaimed “Drive My Car” (2021, directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi), which won three awards at the 74th Cannes International Film Festival including Best Screenplay, as well as Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards. He is joined by a talented cast of Japanese actors including Tori Matsuzaka, Kenichi Endo, Takashi Kobayashi and Yajuro Bando, who deliver performances with eccentricity and charm. Director Mitani and his cast rehearsed extensively before filming to create a unique world of characters in a process which has become a hallmark of Kōki Mitani films.
The theatrical one-upmanship between the A-list actors who bring Mitani’s script to life and heretofore unseen facets of the actors expertly drawn out by Mitani's direction are must-sees! Behold the birth of a new chapter in Mitani entertainment!

STORY

A detective visits the mansion of a famous poet. He is told that “Suomi” has been missing since yesterday.
Suomi is the poet's wife and the detective's ex-wife.
The detective insists that a formal investigation be launched immediately, but the poet balks, not wanting to make a big deal of it.
Before long, men from Suomi’s past come out of the woodwork and gather at the mansion.
Who loved Suomi the most? Who did Suomi love the most?
The men argue passionately, forgetting the fact that she’s missing.
But strangely, none of the husbands’ recollections of Suomi matches up. It’s as if they’re talking about five totally different women…
Where has Suomi disappeared to? Who exactly is Suomi?
