INTRODUCTION
The year 2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the TV animation series “Chibimaruko-chan” since its broadcast started in 1990. The humorous and surrealistic daily episodes of the Sakura family and their neighbors revolving around Maruko have been loved over generations. More than 1100 episodes of this national animation program known to everyone in Japan have been broadcasted. The movie is produced after an interval of 23 years and its screenplay is written by the original creator Momoko Sakura. In this movie, Maruko leaves her local town of Shimizu and travels to Osaka and Kyoto for the first time. Maruko performs actively on the screen. What makes the movie more exciting is that special artists and gorgeous guest voice actors and actresses are featured in addition to the regular members of the TV series. The story fit for a movie unfolds beyond time and nationality. Both adults and children will be moved to tears by this touching story.
STORY
The children have come from 5 different countries. Maruko and her friends are thrown into a panic as these foreign children are to stay at their homes by the request of their friend Hanawa. Andrea, a boy from Italy, is to stay at Maruko’s home. Maruko and her friends have a good time with them at school and travelling outside their town to visit Osaka and Kyoto over the weekend. At first, Maruko is perplexed by Andrea’s active approach; yet, she comes to understand him once she learns why he came to Japan. At the festival they go together, both of them make a wish to meet again. Finally these happy days come to an end and they have to part…
