What will we become if we keep on acting?
They had not yet known true joy or sorrow…
“Maku ga Agaru” (The Curtain Rises) is a coming-of-age story about members of a high school theater club in rural Japan. The heroines are ordinary students, grappling with the day-to-day challenges common to all teenagers, such as exams and love. Their lives are filled with anxiety and hope for the future that awaits them.
The original novel chronicles the heroines’ personal growth and development through acting. Their stories will resonate not only with high school students, but also adults who have lived through this dramatic period in life.
The film is filtered through a special lens ? acting -- and portrays high school students in a new light in a refreshing take on the coming-of-age story.
All five members of the popular idol group Momoiro Clover Z will captivate viewers with their youthful energy!
STORY
Saori (Kanako Momota) manages the high school theater club, whose members include the “billboard star” Yukko (Shiori Tamai), the strong headed, yet protective Garuru (Reni Takagi) and the dependable junior, Akemi (Ayaka Sasaki). While each girl struggles with her own troubles and worries, they rally together to enter their last competition as seniors.
When they discover that their new art teacher, Miss Yoshioka (Haru Kuroki), was the queen of the college theater scene, they implore her to direct their club. Then, Nakanishi (Momoka Ariyasu), a transfer student from one of the strongest theater schools in the district, joins the team…as they prepare for their final theater competition!
